ZOO DAY!

Well, the day has finally come---it's zoo day~
The girls have been waiting and waiting:) It is a beautiful day--sunny and no rain in the forecast! We headed on south to the SanFran Zoo.....

Beautiful flamingos---but wow-stinky creatures!!

The girls didn't mind at first, but then they were like---"eeewwhhhh, mom, let's go!"

We headed to the African Savanah part of the zoo. Giraffes, ostrich, zebras, and more...

Then, the gorilla habitat...

It was quite clear that this beast was the male-protector- of the family!

The girls enjoyed the baby---he was turning flips and playing:) It was great!!

Onto the lion---George. He wasn't lookin' so happy. After I shot a few pics, he got up, turned around, and plopped back down with his back to me. I got the hint!

I found myself just in awe of this lion though. There was something about his eyes...

Onto bear trails...

These Grizzlies were sisters, and they put on quite a show as well:)

The girls were smiles all day:)

The peacock---Dalaina's absolute favorite:) And they were everywhere we went!

After lots of walking through the African savanah and the land down under, it was time for COTTON CANDY!

The meercats and prairie dog section was fun...the girls were mimicking the animals in the life size tunnels!

...This owl was hatched at the zoo and can never be released into the wild.

Sierra, the eagle, was hit by a truck and lost a wing and therefore can never be returned to the wild.

The girls learned so much, plus got lots of exercise without knowing it!!!

Onto the family farm section---which was the favorite:)

....this sheep was not so happy about my camera and I!

...I did escape unharmed:)

The girls were right at home on the farm~

Goats, pigs, ponies, Llama, ElPacas, ducks, horse, etc...

Onto the insect zoo---another favorite part. We learned about insects last week, so this was great reinforcement!

There was a tube to let these bees outside to collect pollen. They bring it back in here and get busy! The girls loved hearing the buzzing:)

They wrote postcards to the president to ask him to continue to save the animals and support zoos!
...a butterfly metamorphosis video ( did I spell that right?)
After 4 1/2 hours of walking around, we ended with dinner in the cafe. They each received a lunch box that they just LOVE!

One polar bear and one cheetah--2 happy girls!

Well, that's all! We had a day full of excitement, exercise, and education! They can't wait until they can go again---with dad:)
